Methodology
We reuse the same warehouse director-compensation cut as the highest-paid corporate boards explainer: latest usable DEF 14A director table, drop any single director row above $1 million, then keep boards with 5 to 15 remaining seats.
Total board pay is the sum of cash fees, stock awards, option awards, and other compensation for those remaining non-employee directors. A CEO who sits on the board is reported in the executive tables and is not included here.
One board total per company. The warehouse snapshot already keeps the latest qualifying fiscal year. Companies that fail the recurring-cost screen are dropped before ranking. The sortable archive keeps a looser cut for lookup.
Limitations
This is not every U.S. public company. Coverage is the rentseek.ing warehouse cut of boards that pass the recurring-cost screen: 5 to 15 seats after dropping $1M+ director rows. Companies that have not filed a usable director table are omitted.
A high board total can reflect a large board, rich equity retainers, or both. Compare peers and read the filing before treating the number as a verdict. See the highest-paid corporate boards explainer.
